About JPG

JPG is the most widely-used photo format on the web. It's already lossy, so converting to PNG can't recover detail that JPG threw away — but it gives you a stable file to edit and re-save without stacking more JPG compression on top.

About PNG

PNG is lossless and universally supported. It's the right container when you plan to keep editing an image, need transparency, or hand it to a tool that refuses JPG (some design software, print workflows, and older upload forms).

Why convert JPG to PNG?

Convert JPG → PNG when downstream software requires PNG, when you're about to edit an image and don't want another round of JPG loss, or when you need to add transparency to an existing photo.

What people use it for

  • Hand a JPG to a tool or CMS that only accepts PNG
  • Stop stacking JPG loss on top of JPG loss during editing
  • Add a transparent layer or alpha mask on top of a JPG photo
  • Convert JPG icons for print, where PNG is standard
  • Prepare a JPG for a design tool that prefers PNG imports

How it works

  1. 1

    Drop a .jpg file

Click the drop zone or drag any JPG file in. Files stay on your device.

  2. 2

    Adjust quality (optional)

PNG is lossless, so there's no quality slider — every pixel of the decoded image is preserved.

  3. 3

    Click Convert to PNG

The conversion runs in your browser. When it's done, click Download.

Frequently asked questions

No. JPG discards data during compression and PNG can't get it back. What PNG does give you is a lossless container so future edits don't compound the loss.
