What people use it for

  • Copy quotes and citations out of academic PDFs.
  • Feed PDF content into ChatGPT or another LLM.
  • Search across a batch of PDFs by extracting text first.
  • Migrate old documentation into Notion, Google Docs, or Markdown.
  • Extract invoice line-items for accounting.
  • Pull transcripts out of PDF meeting notes.

Some PDFs refuse to let you select or copy anything, and retyping a page by hand is slow and error-prone. This tool reads the text layer of a PDF and hands it back as plain text you can paste into Word, Google Docs, Notion, or a chat with an AI assistant — with page breaks and reading order preserved. Everything runs on your own device, so the document is never uploaded anywhere.

Two kinds of PDF need a different first step. A scanned PDF is just a photo of each page with no real text inside — run it through the OCR tool first to recognize the text in the images. A password-protected PDF needs to be unlocked with the PDF Password Remover before its text can be read. After either step, drop the result back here.

Because every page is parsed locally, it is a safe choice for confidential PDFs — contracts, medical records, financial statements, legal briefs, research papers, resumes, and anything else you'd rather not upload to a random website. There is no account to create and no watermark on the output.
