Which compression mode should I choose?

Quality starts at 80% and balances size against visible detail. Lossless avoids colour reduction and resizing: PNG is optimized, JPEG keeps its encoded picture and removes only eligible comments and non-EXIF metadata, and WebP stays unchanged. Target size searches a bounded range of quality settings and reports whether your requested KB limit was reached.

Can I compress PNG without converting it to JPG?

Yes. Quality below 100% reduces the PNG colour palette while retaining transparency, which can help screenshots, graphics and product cutouts. Colours and gradients may change. Quality at 100% skips palette reduction but re-encodes the image; choose Lossless to optimize the original PNG without that re-encoding step.

Does the image compressor resize my photos?

No automatic resizing is applied. Original dimensions are kept unless you choose a maximum longest side in Quality or Target size mode. Large-image warnings include a 2400px option; selecting it from Lossless explicitly switches to Quality. Oversized jobs are rejected with an actionable message rather than silently reduced.

Why is my target file size not reached?

Some images cannot fit a tiny file budget at their current dimensions without excessive quality loss. Target mode stops at its quality limits and clearly labels a missed target. Try WebP output or explicitly choose a smaller maximum side, then compress again.

Why is my compressed file the same size as the original?

An already optimized image may not shrink, especially in Lossless mode. When same-format compression at original dimensions would make the file larger, your original is kept instead. For more savings, try Quality, WebP or smaller dimensions. No mode guarantees a particular percentage reduction.

Can I preview the result before downloading?

Usually. A before-and-after slider compares scaled previews; the download keeps the output dimensions shown beside the file. Lossless JPEG/WebP images above 48 megapixels skip the preview to avoid unnecessary picture decoding. If a lossless preview fails, the completed file can still be downloaded and the omission is explained.

Does it remove EXIF and GPS metadata?

Quality and Target size re-encode to sRGB without copying original EXIF or colour-profile metadata. If your smaller original is kept, its metadata remains. Lossless JPEG retains EXIF, including orientation and potentially GPS, plus colour profiles; lossless WebP is unchanged. Lossless is not a metadata privacy scrubber.

What is included in Free and Pro?

Free processes one image per run within the per-file and shared daily allowance shown on the page; the default allowance is 10 MB per file and 3 successful runs per day. Pro removes the daily allowance and supports up to 30 images / 150 MB per batch, with individual downloads or one ZIP. A successful batch counts as one use. The source and processing limits below still apply to Pro.

How large an image can I compress?

Every source must be within 100 MB, 120 megapixels and 32,768 pixels per side, as well as your plan's per-file allowance. Desktop lossy jobs support up to 48 MP and warn above 12 MP; pixel-preserving PNG (Lossless or Quality at 100%) supports 32 MP with the same warning. Smaller devices allow up to 24 MP for JPG/WebP and 16 MP for PNG, warning above 8 MP. Lossless JPEG/WebP file operations allow up to 120 MP on either device class. WebP encoding also limits each side to 16,383 pixels.

Will large photos work on every phone or browser?

Not necessarily. These are Minitooler's processing allowances, not a guarantee of available memory. Large jobs can slow or temporarily freeze a device even below the limit. Close other tabs or choose 2400px to reduce the workload. Images run sequentially, Cancel stops the active job, and each image has a three-minute processing timeout. Large retained batch results can require a smaller batch.

Which image formats are supported?

Still JPG/JPEG, PNG and WebP files are supported. PNG and WebP retain transparency; JPG output replaces transparent areas with white. GIF, SVG, HEIC, animated PNG and animated WebP are not supported here. Use the HEIC to JPG or SVG Converter tools first when needed.

Choose savings or exact picture preservation

Quality starts at 80%. Lower settings can make a smaller file, but check fine text, product colours and smooth gradients before downloading. PNG colour reduction keeps transparency; JPG output gives transparent areas a white background. WebP is another option for website images.

Lossless avoids resizing and colour reduction. It optimizes the original PNG, preserves JPEG picture data while removing only eligible metadata, and leaves WebP unchanged.
