How does it decide what is silence?

It measures how loud the audio is in very short slices. Any stretch quieter than your threshold and longer than the minimum gap counts as silence and is cut.

What threshold should I use?

−45 dB is a good start for a clean voice recording. Move it toward −30 dB if room noise or hiss keeps the gaps in; move it toward −60 dB if quiet words are being cut. The slider goes from −70 to −15 dB.

How do I see what will be removed before I export?

The waveform shows kept parts in blue and your threshold as a dashed red line. Below it, a counter shows how many segments are kept, how long the result will be and how much time you save — all updating as you move the sliders.

Why is there a padding setting?

Cutting right at the edge of speech sounds abrupt and can clip breaths and consonants. Padding (0 to 1 second) keeps a little silence around each kept part so the result sounds natural.

Can I only trim the beginning and end?

Yes. Set “What to cut” to “Only start & end”. Everything between the first and last sound is kept; only the dead air at the edges is removed.

Which formats can I open and save?
