Encryption uses AES-256-GCM with a key stretched from your password via PBKDF2 — the same primitives modern password managers and disk encryption use. Every file is encrypted with a fresh random salt and IV, so encrypting the same input twice produces two completely different outputs.

Because everything runs on your device with the browser's Web Crypto API, sensitive files — private videos, personal photos, tax documents, IDs, medical records, source code, financial spreadsheets — never leave your computer, and neither does the password. This is a safer choice than the typical "encrypt file online" service that quietly ships your file and password to a third-party server. The original filename and file type are also encrypted inside the container, so an encrypted .mtenc file leaks nothing about what it holds — not even whether it was a video or a PDF.
